Text: 1 Cor. 1:27
"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong"
I once got a poster for my birthday. It was a terrific poster, with a wonderful picture of a sunset, and these words of wisdom: There are two foundational facts of human enlightmenment: 1. There is a God. And 2. YOU are NOT Him!
I have always just got a real kick out of this saying. It's one of those things that is so simple, as to be profound. And yet, I wonder if I might add a supplemental thought, or two. You see - I would suggest these three things are equally as true:
1. God has a plan. (see Eph. 2:10)
2. Plans CAN change. (cite Jonah and Ninevah)
3. God uses fools and wimps to carry out His plan.
By way of a brief testimony, I was not always a Christian, and certainly not always as confident as the pictures on this home page display me. There was a time when someone would extend their hand to shake mine, and I would cower for fear I would be shot.
Yes, I was one of those people who involved themselves in the things of the world to the extent that I had good reason to fear for my life. And while I have rarely had too much trouble trying to figure most things out, I have made my fair share of foolish decisions in life.
But this one thing I have always known: that no matter what, I want to serve the Lord. I want to be used by God in any way that He would enable me to be used. In the last four years, more than 50,000 people have responded to the messages that we have presented across America. This is not to say that "we" are special, but that the Word of God does not return void, and that God will use whatever is necessary to reach people where they are.
Interestingly, the word, "magician" has it's roots from the word, "juggler". And, while I realize this may be my own interpretation (and I am dear friends with some of America's top jugglers), I always get the picture of a court jester - a fool - tossing balls to keep his King happy. And when I announced my intention to become a professional illusionist - and then to do those illusions for the benefit of the Kingdom of God, people thought I was about as foolish as they come. I was told NOT to pursue this ministry, because of the controversy involved with it.
Well friends, if I were afraid of controversy, I NEVER would have become a Christian, because it is a fact, even almost 2,000 years later, Jesus Christ is the most controversial figure in human history. But one has only two responses to a call to minitry - one can go - and do what the Lord has called one to do, or ignore the call - and miss out on God's plan.
So, no matter how inadequate you may feel... or how much a wimp or a fool you might feel like - if God calls you to do something - saddle up, and get ready to see what He will do through you... Because God uses fools and wimps!
