Eric Reamer's Illustrated Illusions
Ministry By Effect
What is "Gospel Magic"?
Isn't magic condemned by the Bible?
It must be clearly understood that the "magic" referred to by the Bible is, without exception, the manipulation of the supernatural realm, either by conjuring of demons, consulting with people known as sorcerers or mediums, dabbling with astrology with the intent to predict the future or drug-induced psychosis. It has the connotation of involvement with witchcraft, sorcery, or pharmacological (drug) involvement. Eric Reamer's Illustrated Illusions has ABSOLUTELY NO AFFILIATION with witchcraft, sorcery, or chemically-induced effects!
It is unfortunate that the art of misdirection and sleight-of-hand, for the purpose of entertainment, bears the title, "magic". However, the "magic" performed by Eric Reamer is merely a matter of illusion, specifically designed to bring about the interest of the audience. Once their attention is captivated, Eric speaks forth the Gospel truth with each new effect in a way that most will find hard to forget!
Eric Reamer has studied the origins of witchcraft, Satanism, and many of the cult movements of our time from a Biblical perspective. He is quick to renounce ANY association with these things, and has been in the full time ministry for over ten years.
Eric, and his wife, MeLinda, served for many years as the Program Directors of Teen Challenge Christian Academy in Sundance, Wyoming. In April of 1992, they moved to Sterling, Colorado, where they are centrally located for their national evangelistic ministry.
Eric is the immediate past Editor of The Christian Conjurer Magazine, which is the official publication of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians, International. He is the author of 4 books on the performance of illusions in the ministry, "Think Ahead!", "Power-Filled Gospel Magic", "Impact!", and "Visual Object Lessons for Children's Workers"
Some Frequently Asked Questions - AND their answers!
Q: Do you meet with resistance to the "magic" aspect of
your ministry?
A: Through the years, I have heard several well-meaning
Christians express their concerns of my using illusion. I have asked
them to reserve judgement until they witness the fruit of the
ministry, and my explanation of "magic", according to
Biblical exegesis. In the vast majorty of such instances, those same
people have expressed enthusiastic support for our ministry. There
have been a few that continue to disagree, and I respect their honest
intent to honor God.
Q: Is the performance of illusion a "substitute" for
preaching the Word?
A: Absolutely NOT! I love to preach. There is a great need
for pastors, evangelists, and teachers of the Gospel. The use of
illusion serves 2 purposes: A) Attention - I can
get the attention of the audience with the tricks; and B) Retention
- It is a documented fact that people, young and old alike, learn far
better with visual object lessons - in short, they WILL remember!
Q: How did you do that?!?
A: As a professional illusionist, I have an ethical
obligation not to reveal the secrets of my art. I can assure you,
though, EVERYTHING I do has a natural explanation!
Eric Reamer is a member in good standing of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians, Int'l., and the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
