Bullying Prevention
This is Eric Reamer's brand new offering, and quite possibly the most timely, impacting, and important assembly ever! Our schools are turning into war-zones, and without proper attention to the issue of bullying, we can expect to see the violence escalate.
Eric worked closely with Officer Randy Wiler (Leawood, KS Police Dept.), pioneer of Kansas state's Bullying Prevention Programs, and state-wide director of bully prevention programming. Randy has been in cooperation with ABC's 20/20 national television program, and has been widely recognized as one of America's top experts in this area.
Together, Eric and Randy developed a 45 minute public school assembly that reaches both the students, and the teachers alike. Through the use of mind-boggling modern stage illusion, Eric weaves a message that is absolutely ciritcal to every child in America. Developed throughout the program are the following concepts:
Bullying defined
- What to do if you are bullied
- How to stop if you are the bully
- The role of teachers, parents and authorities
- The intrinsic value in every person
- Knowing the truth, and making right decisions
- Having a plan (practical application)
Keep in mind, this is only a partial list of the issues discussed in this assembly. The entire program is a fast-paced, high-energy adventure that involves all of the students. Unbelievable illusions serve to teach the students in a manner that most will remember for a long time - ensuring a higher level of comprehension and retention! Eric incorporates solid content, a high level of skill, and superbly selected music into a complete package that will entertain while it educates.
WHY Say No?
By far, this is Eric's most widely recognized, and most popular public school assembly. This program starts where the "Just Say No" program leaves off. Eric operates under the premise that is, "not enough to 'just say no'." Rather, he teaches the students the value of knowing why we take a stand against drugs, alcohol, and illicit substance abuse.
Eric has been performing this assembly for more than 7 years, and each year he develops a brand new program to build upon the last. The best part is, any one of the programs can stand alone, and at the same time, schools that have Eric back year after year (and many of them do!) can clearly see long term comprehension among the children. It is not at all uncommon for children who participated in one of Eric's WSN assemblies in one year, actually finish the sentences that Eric uses by way of review - a full year later!
Substance abuse prevention continues to be a major issue in today's schools... and statistics support the fact that kids are being exposed to, and trying drugs at a much earlier age than ever before! 20% of children in the 2nd grade have either been approached to try, or have already tried cigarettes or alcohol (US Dept. of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms). We cannot get this message of substance abuse prevention out to our children soon enough! Eric tailors and customizes his programs to specific age groups to make the point in ways that will make the most impact. Suggested age groupings include:
Grades K-3
- Grades 4-6
- Grades 7-12
This assembly has been officially recognized by many law enforcement agencies around the country, and has been endorsed by D.A.R.E. America. Eric received accolades from Wyoming Attorney General, Gay Woodhouse as he spoke and performed at the Wyoming State D.A.R.E. Convention in 1999.
A partial list of the topics covered by Eric during the, "WHY Say No?" assembly:
You are too important to let drugs into your life.
- You don't lose when you refuse!
- Drugs kill!
- Friends don't let friends do drugs.
- Think ahead, and have an escape route.
- Take a stand for yourself.
- Establish priorities
Magic with an ATTITUDE!
This assembly was developed in 1998, and refined in 1999. The primary goal of this program is to get students to acknowledge differences in others, and consider how their attitudes affect one another.
Eric takes students along a journey of peer interaction, and details how our attitudes, both positive and negative, impact every aspect of our daily lives. Humorous interludes are coupled with one amazing happening after another, and the end result is an assembly that grips the attention of your students, and doesn't let go!
Some of the concepts discussed in this assembly include:
A positive attitude is contagious
- Attitudes affect behaviors
- Different is good - in fact, it's necessary
- Negative attitudes lead to violence
- Everyone has the right to lead a happy life
This assembly involves a large amount of audience participation, and encourages young people to become achievers through developing a positive attitude about themselves and others. As with all of Eric Reamer's public school assemblies, each program is custom designed to meet the needs of specific age groups. Eric is also willing and able to address special needs for individual schools, so that he might address detailed issues that support the ongoing work of the school administration.
The MAGIC of Cooperation
Possibly Eric's second most popular assembly, the MAGIC of Cooperation is the forerunner to both the, "Magic with an ATTITUDE!", and the, "Bullying Prevention" assemblies. This assembly still has its place, as it targets various issues that are not completely covered in the other assemblies.
This program promotes unity and a spirit of cooperation, in the midst of cultural diversity. Eric encourages the students to draw upon common ground, and overcome such obstacles as racial tension, stereotypes, and prejudices.
A partial list of the topics discussed and illustrated in this assembly are as follows:
Respect
- Working together gets the job done
- There's no room for discrimination
- We all need a little understanding
- United we stand, divided we fall
- We can all learn from understanding other people's point of view
Of course, each assembly is geared to the specific age group for which it is intended. Eric scales the message down for the very young, and pulls no punches (citing current statistics and trends) when speaking to High School students. This is a practical program to get people thinking and talking about cooperation.
