Where Nothing Is Impossible...

This is the place where each month, I will either teach a new trick, or actually perform one for/on YOU! These will most likely not be EARTH-SHATTERING tricks, but I think you will agree that the lessons they are designed to teach are extremely valuable, and very practical for children's workers!

This page is dedicated to anyone who has ever had to teach children, and wondered, "what am I going to speak on this Sunday??". All materials are commonly available, and should cost little or nothing to gather up and use.

Math Cramps

Here is a collection of 5 short illustrations that just might stump even the sharpest minds in your audience! I offer them as terrific methods to introduce such concepts as jumping to conclusions, or pointing out how easy it is to be fooled. Answers will be found by clicking on the link following the questions. Try your best to solve the questions without having to cheat!

1. A harmonica cost a dollar more than a pencil. Together, they cost $1.10. How much did each cost?

2. A ribbon os 30 inches long. If you cut it with a pair of scissors into one inch pieces (no folding, or doubling up the ribbon), how many snips would it take?

3. Farmer Brown came to town with some watermelons. He sold half of them, plus half a melon, and found that he had one whole melon left. How many melons did he take to town?

4. If you took 3 apples from a basket that contained 13 apples, how many apples would you have?

5. Nine thousand, nine hundred and nine dollars is written, $9,909. How fast can you write the figures for this sum of money: twelve thousand, twelve hundred and twelve dollars?

There is no one specific Gospel application to this series of questions, but they can be used very effectively as a springboard into many Gospel discussions. They make great ice-breakers for Sunday School (any age), and can suitably introduce any number of Biblical topics.
