This is the place where each month, I will either teach a new trick, or actually perform one for/on YOU! These will most likely not be EARTH-SHATTERING tricks, but I think you will agree that the lessons they are designed to teach are extremely valuable, and very practical for children's workers!
This page is dedicated to anyone who has ever had to teach children, and wondered, "what am I going to speak on this Sunday??". All materials are commonly available, and should cost little or nothing to gather up and use.
What Is Your Priority?
This trick is one of the most straightforward interactive effects I have come across. I credit Mike Stenberg, Editor of the Christian Conjurer Magazine, for his inclusion of the mechanics of this trick in the Sept. - Oct. issue of that magazine. In that issue, Mike attributes this to an anonymous contributer, and so I do not know where actual credit goes for the original thought.- though it is a true statement that Martin Gardner has created numerous such effects, and they are clearly now in the public domain.
This is a trick you get to actually do with me - right here on your computer screen! So, free up one of your fingers, and go ahead and follow along with the directions. Together, we'll discover a great truth to answer the question, "What is your priority?'
Presentation: "Do you ever think about priorities? You know - the things that are important to us? Well, here's a little chart to remind us of several of the things that we may establish as "priorities". As you can see, there are a vast range of priorities - and while not every one of these things may make it to your list, I think it's safe to say that we all could call several of these things, "important". Let's run a little expirament to see what someone - anyone - might consider a priority. Just follow the directions, and let's see what happens!
Directions:
Step 1: Touch any black square. Step 2: Move left or right to the nearest red square. Step 3: Move up or down to the nearest black square. Step 4: Move diagonally to the nearest red square. Step 5: Move left or right to the nearest black square.

Presentation (cont.): Isn't it true that while there are a multitude of things that we can (and do) consider, "important" in our lives - that the most important thing of all is (or should be) our relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ?
That relationship - a personal relationship - should be the number one most important aspect of our lives. Sure - we need love, and we need food and water. Money is very important, and we can't live without sleep... but above all else... we need Jesus. Paul said, "for me, to live is Christ, and to die, gain!" That means that while we are here on this earth - we should be about the business of knowing Christ in a personal way.
Note: Please feel free to copy this trick off, and reproduce it in whatever way you want. (It is probably not legal to market this commercially without proper consent). It was suggested that you could even put a small version of this on your business card, and share the love of Christ with people you meet in that manner.
